In locking one uses locks and freer body movements. A locker performs a specific complex of movements and freezes after every move, but doesn’t stop.

It looks like a comic dance, in which mainly arms are used, but the posture and jumps are also important. Locking is based on three moves: the loop (rotating movement with the arm), point (pointing with one or both arms) and jump (performed while standing in the “rider” position).

Locking, originally called Campbellocking, also differs with its peculiar pauses, however it is a complete freezing of one’s movement, unlike the contracting and relaxing of muscles used in popping. The movements are more relaxed than the ones used in popping. Locking is usually performed to funk music. Nevertheless, it can also be performed to other styles of music that include elements of funk such as disco or electronic music.
